Retail Training

Is sourcing training in a range of retail disciplines a constant challenge for you?

Have you ever wished you could provide cost effective, quality training without blowing your budget?

Do you find it easy to source soft skills, such as hiring and appraising, but tough to find industry specific training such as retail math, inventory management, customer service and sales skills?

If you’ve hired training companies to build classes for you in the past, were you disappointed or constrained by their lack of retail knowledge?

If so, you’re not alone. But good news! This is where Martec International can help.

Retailers recognize that better trained staff do their jobs more efficiently, are better motivated, stay longer and cost less to employ when all costs are taken into account. A study sponsored by the Coca Cola Research Foundation found that it costs the average US supermarket approximately $50,000 to replace a store manager. This cost includes hiring and training costs and also includes the lost profit while the new store manager is coming up to speed.

Hence investment in training pays rewards in many ways. But should you develop your training in house with all the costs that entails, but have the benefit of highly customized training, or use off the shelf programs to save money and leverage other subject matter experts? What training approaches should you use? Instructor led, e-learning, interactive web-based training or a blend?

There’s no one answer that’s right for everybody in every circumstance. We undertake needs analyses studies to advise our clients on the best training mix to achieve their goals.

Martec provides a portfolio of off the shelf instructor led and e-learning classes, develops and presents interactive web-based seminars and customizes its programs to meet retailers’ precise needs.

Martec’s professional staff members are all former retailers with at least ten year’s retail experience in a range of disciplines and all have held at least one management position. Hence they bring a wealth of experience to solving clients’ training and business problems.

Learning Services Portfolio

As this chart shows, our offer starts with self-paced learning delivered over the web. We provide e-mail support to those studying our programs for a modest support charge. Our e-learning programs include self-testing for the learner, and may also include central capture and reporting of test results.

At the next level, we present one to two hour web seminars on specific topics. These allow students a greater degree of interaction with the instructor and can also include testing.

Finally, we offer a portfolio of pre-developed instructor led classes, which can be customized to specific requirements. We also write additional instructor led classes to meet unique requirements.

In some circumstances, we build completely custom programs from the ground up. With the depth of retail and training experience we bring to bear, we can typically build these programs in half the time of our competitors.

Our instructor-led portfolio addresses buying and merchandising skills, supply chain management, store operations, customer service and selling skills. For a quick overview of our instructor-led training portfolio, click here.
