History
Martec is an independent retail consultancy practice. It was developed from the start as a center of international retail expertise. All of our consultants have held management positions in significant retail organizations during their careers, so our core competence is in retail and supply chain management. We have now carried out retail projects in 34 countries across the world.
1987 Martec established as a specialist retail consulting company. First client was Harrods. Second was American Express.
1988 Developed our first instructor-led retail training courses in response to requests from clients
1989 Offered our first public classes in hotels in London
1990 Delivered our first class in Chicago in the US
1992 Published first UK directory of retail application software
1995 First e-learning classes developed for clients who need more flexible just in time training with no travel budget issues
1998 Atlanta, Georgia office opened to cope with the increasing volume of US business
2002 Researched and published the first IT in Retail report, the first in a series of research reports which are used by retailers and vendors. Now they include research on multi-channel retailing and systems used by the leading 100 UK retailers and non-food retailers.
2003 Developed first web-based e-learning training using ReadyGo Web Course Builder, still our main development tool today.
2004 Student number 4,000 attends Martec's instructor-led Understanding Retail training program
2006 Student number 5,000 attends Martec's Understanding Retail program
2008 National Retail Federation Foundation starts to distribute Martec's e-learning via its University Wired. First project for a Lithuanian company.
2010 Martec's transactional web site set up to allow retailers and vendors worldwide to buy Martec's training, reports and other products more easily. Published our first world wide retail applications software directory and first Multi-Channel retailing thought leadership study.
